有幸的是前些日子就在所謂的西海邊住下，初到北京就時常有著后海的話題耳邊飄過。有海，不解。似日有個朋友就帶上俺去了趟所謂北京的海。暈呼！接連的酒吧一家挨一家，車水馬龍、門庭若市，熙來攘往、人潮如織。
酒吧內外大呼小叫恣意放縱的人群，混濁的“�！彼�，還有排氣管轟鳴呼嘯而過的車流。就這塊屁大的`地方，酒吧、茶館俺真數不過來有多少家。古香古色的街道閃爍著名牌啤酒的廣告燈；銀錠橋，青石板路上車來車往。
我經常呆的地方應該是后海最為安靜，也許會讓常來泡吧的人不太習慣了。然而你若沿著河沿的暮色斜陽走下去，你會發現，坐在春夏綠意繁花的酒吧中，無法品味的情韻，此時正慢慢地涌進你的心田。
后海真實的魅力，就是它那深厚的歷史濃縮，這種文化的風物是你在北京的其他地方品味不到的，它蘊藏了這個800多年的古都最深沉的生活和文化，豐富而內斂。
沿海而行，人不由得放松了繃緊的神經，從心里蕩漾出一份安寧和閑適。遠處銀淀橋上，老人們正笑談著他們的人生；偶有“胡同游”的三輪車經過，車上的老外拿著相機瞎拍。腦子里突然冒出何勇的《鐘鼓樓》：“……銀淀橋吸著那塵煙，任你們畫著它的臉……”

說是“海”，其實是一個巨大的人工湖，是舊時皇家獨享的一泓清池。后海地處北京市中心，距天安門僅有四、五站地，與著名的北海一水相連，與景山、故宮遙遙相對。沿海走著走著，一不留神就會看到碧瓦紅墻。在那些高大莊嚴的大門外，只能看到院內高大森郁的樹木。悠悠地透著神秘。據說，后海的水域連著故宮的龍脈，從古至今都是風水寶地。所以，歷代的高僧們在這里修寺建廟，而王公大臣們則在岸邊選址筑府造園，名人們也紛紛遷居湖畔，開始了后海邊上最初的水岸生活。因此，俗語說，“先有什剎海，后有北京城”。

后海是指前海、后海、西海三塊水面的什剎海。為了與北海、中海、南海前三海區別， 被稱作后三海。后海東起地安門外大街，西至新街口大街，南起平安大街，北至北二環，總面積146.7公頃，其中水域面積34公頃，綠地面積11.5公頃。這是北京城內720xx年以前元大都時期的古老水域。 后海是13世紀元大都規劃設計的基本的依據之一，什剎海周邊從元代起就是大都城的繁華商業區，它當時是漕運的終點，被稱為“北京古海港”，那時沿岸處處是酒樓歌臺、商肆作坊。
