the name christmas is short for "christ‘s mass". a mass is a kind of church service. christmas is a religious(宗教上的) festival(節日). it is the day we celebrate(慶祝) as the birthday of jesus.

un is short for the united nations.
un是聯合國的縮略形式。
will is short for william.
威爾是威廉的簡稱。
把short for倒過來，for short意思是“簡略地”或“簡化地”，相當于副詞。如：
his name is james. we call him jim for short.
他的名字叫james。我們簡稱他為jim。
2.短語put away，意思很多，主要有以下用法。
(1)表示“把……收好、放好”，如：
